
The largest shell egg recall in history has prompted FDA inspections of two large Iowa egg farms. The results of these inspections will likely add more pressure to U.S. politicians to tighten the regulations on the largest egg farmers in the country.

Investigators have discovered the potential source of salmonella bacteria that contaminated more than half a billion eggs. The salmonella bacteria was found in chicken feed at the Iowa farms that are the center of the national outbreak and recall.

The laws surrounding the FDA allows them only to react to situations like the recent egg recall rather than be proactive in preventing them according to Margaret Hamburg, chief of the FDA.

At this point it is not known for certain how many people have gotten sick from eating the contaminated eggs, but the number is high and continues to go up.

There are prescription drugs readily available online and this has become a problem for federal agents. So they are cracking down on pharmacies that provide the drugs.
