Missing NBA Player’s Body Found In Memphis
Police have discovered the body of former NBA player Lorenzen Wright in Memphis. His body was discovered in a woody area in the southeastern part of the city by an unnamed person who alerted law enforcement on Wednesday. Wright had been considered missing since July 19. The family of Wright has confirmed that the body found is that of the former NBA Grizzlies player.
A Monday call to 911 from Wright is being investigated by the Memphis Police, but they have not commented on the investigation. Some stories have leaked that a dispatcher heard gunshots before the phone disconnected.
Foul play may have been involved in the disappearance and death of Wright according to the police report released. This may have been related to his possession of large amounts of cash when leaving the residence of his ex-wife. No one, including his ex-wife, knows who he left with that day or what they were driving. He had recently traveled to Memphis from Atlanta for the purpose of visiting his six children and some friends.
Driving home to Atlanta on July 19 with a friend and his children was the plan Wright had shared, but no one saw him after 2 a.m. that day.
Wright was best known as being the No. 7 overall pick in the 1996 NBA draft which led to a career with five teams in thirteen years. Memphis was home for five of those years in the NBA after two seasons at the University of Memphis.
